Request for Cancellation of AFGE Membership

All AFGE memberships are irrevocable for one year and automatically renew annually, with limited exceptions defined in the AFGE Membership Terms and Conditions (such as retirement or complete separation from Federal Service).

Start with your AFGE Local

  • Your Local is the primary authority for cancellations.
  • Local Presidents and Treasurers can drop membership, where approved, through their MyLocal profile.
  • You can find your Local representatives at MyProfile.
  • Any request for early termination not covered by the AFGE Membership Agreement cannot be adjudicated by AFGE National. Such requests may only be reviewed by your Local on a case-by-case basis.

AFGE National may only process cancellations for

  • Retirement
  • Complete separation from government service
  • At the one-year annual renewal date
    • You may submit a cancellation request only during the 30 days immediately before your annual renewal date.
    • If you’re unsure of your renewal date, you can view your signed Membership Agreement at MyProfile.

Submitting a request does not modify your AFGE Membership Agreement or guarantee cancellation. All requests are reviewed under the terms of your Membership Agreement.
